Happy MLK jr day everyone...
As I'm sitting here waiting on my wife and kiddo before we jet out the house I had to stop and reflect on the significance of today.. I think I almost glossed it over as "Great! My wife is off today and we can spend a rare Monday together as a family instead of the normal 9-5 grind". Then it really hit me, I had been looking @ today as just another day off etc.. instead of reflecting on the fact of the reason behind it. I started thinking back on when I used to perform in our local MLK celebration (back when I was @ my old church as a youth pastor) and how much more significant MLK day was. Granted I have been ridiculously sidetracked w/ life as of late but I just had to stop and think about what today really meant. It's an incredible thing that one man helped to spearhead and spark up, I'll never forget the first time I really watched the MLK speech by myself (the whole thing) and couldn't help but get that lump in the back of my throat... Truth is, where are we @ in 2008 when it comes to race relations? Have we progressed, regressed, stayed the same? In light of last year w/ Don Imus, Jena 6 etc.. are we still afraid to face that "elephant in the room"? I admit I hold a weird spot in all of this... white guy, black music, white guy... black neighborhood growing up, white guy.... etc... You get the point.. realistically I have always felt like I never really fit in in a lot of ways.. But then again my strange upbringing and background allows me to operate in a lot of ways that most can't.... SO... I guess I don't have a lot of conclusions in regards to all of this .. just more ?'s but @ the end of the day... I got a dream too, Mr. King thank you for yours! With no further ado... here is my observs. from this week.
Cloverfield the movie:
WOW... I haven't been wowed by a movie in quite a while, without giving away the plot and/or the method to the madness I was crazy impressed by the creativity, visual effects, acting and story line that this movie played out. Even though it was a totally new concept (blair witch had a similar idea) the take on it was superb... I kind of new how the joint was gonna end so I wasn't really suprised (or upset for that matter) but a lot people were walking out the theater angry! I was like cmon... do you always want the perfect ending? Supposedly there are some "easter eggs" in the movie that i missed.. I need to go and see it again to catch em!
People who won't que up in line: Ok this drives me nuts... you ever be approaching a line and you're heading to the back and there is a huge gap in front of you in the line so you say "are you in line?". They usually respond like "uhhhh...huhhhhh...." and in mind I'm like "WELLL THEN HOW ABOUT YOU SCOOT UP AND CLOSE THE GAP PEOPLE!!!!" Ok I'll admit most of it is my impatience and hating of all things line related... but seriously is it neccessary to leave a 5 foot gap between... In the back of my head I'm thinking some dude is gonna not be as polite as me and they are gonna just go and stand in the gap and clueless jones in front of me is gonna let em!!!!! AAAAEEGGGEEEERRRRRRRRHHHHH... pray for me.
Receipts: I think I have an issue w/ getting a receipt for pointless items i purchase... like on one hand I know that I should just toss my receipt for the .99 cent donut I just bought but some weird "pack rat" side of me makes me stick it in my wallet... Before I know it my wallet is stuffed w/ pointless receipts so thick that I can't even sit down!! Now granted you're probably like "well kj how about you throw them out!" but some weird side of me can't bring myself to chuck em! I think the problem starts w/ the cash register girls who find it necessary to give me a receipt for a stick of gum... IS THIS REALLY NECESSARY???
MUCHO AMOR...

Long and Useless Reciepts
written by Tia, January 21, 2008 Seriously! Do you really need a reciept for food? It's not like youre gonna return it! It's a waste of paper. Have you seen JC Penny's reciepts? They take like five lines for one item, like you buy a shirt and it tells you just a whole bunch of stuff you probably already know and the reciept ends up being so long it can wrap around the shirt twice! L8er gater!(thank goodness no one heard that...) Luv you too, KJ! HAHAHAHA!!!
written by RISSA!, January 21, 2008 please DON"T make me laugh...it hurts to much ur funny and also.....u really should get rid of ur reseits RIGHT wen u get home...or u might get to attatched hehe and i'll pray for more patients for u...that also bugs me too Cloverfield is awesome!!
written by Kristine, January 21, 2008 Oh my gosh, i saw cloverfield. Man, that movie was awesome. I had a rowdy crowd and I thought it was funny when the whole crowd started going "Yeah right!" when they started getting up from the helicopter crash. That movie was intense. A lot of ppl left the first 10 minutes because of the motion. I think if you get through the first ten minutes then the movie will be great. I was beyond scared and screaming the whole time but it was fun. I have screamed that much since Jurrasic Park 3. lol You know I do the same thing with my receipts. My wallet doesn't close because of it. Part of me is procrastinating in logging it in my checkbook and the other part of me is doing the whole what-if I need it thing. I didn't get today off but MLK is awesome what i hate is the town of Jena has the "White Separists" who claim their not racist *sarcastic snort* picketing the holiday. goodness of all the towns that one was the last one that needed that type of publicity. Glad to know i was educated on what the KKK flag looks like. Ah well, we've come a long way! I hope you had a nice time with your family. I'm not sure I'll watch cloverfield again. I'm still slowing down my heartbeat. lol Kristine YO FIVETWEEZY

written by Joseph White, January 27, 2008 Hey KJ, just wonderin if you would have either the time or interest in a multi-church outreach in New York City. If you want more information on it, just send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . To know more of Mr. White, go to cnwhite.org. If you cannot be apart of the outreach in May, I hope you will be able to be apart of some of the others over the summer. I hope that many will come to Christ this spring and summer, and I hope you can be apart of it. Revolve
written by S, January 27, 2008 whats up fivetweezy? Well I haven't seen Cloverfield but I want to it looks great! and I agree with you about the lines thing that bugs the mess outa me, and I am totally right there with you about the receipts-TOTAL WASTE OF PAPER-it's not like i can return gas or chewed gum! uuhhmm exuse me-I would like to return this 1/4 of a Moutain Dew 'cause it's flat now! So anyhow, I was @ Revolve in Charlotte, NC this weekend. It was a first for me, and the first time i've seen you live! Revolve was awesome-like the whole thing. I feel like I really needed it! God has truly blessed you with a talent that is beyond words! To be able to reach teens through this genre of music is great because you're getting the message across, and yet they actually like your music! I love your music, i mean i'm not exactly a teen anymore, cause I just turned 21 earlier this month, but i still love it!!!! anyways-of all the artists there, you were definately my fav!!!! Keep on keepin on! I sincerely hope you are @ Revolve next year because our church has already purchased floor tickets for next year in Greensboro, NC! This year we were in the nose bleed section!lol!! The Yearbook is great by the way. My favorites are Push UP and Fanmail! I feel blessed to have you as my brother in Christ KJ! We Haven't Changed all that much.
written by Devona, January 28, 2008 I think this year I appreciated MLK Jr. Day a lot more. You see I'm as my boyfriend says am this lil preppy white girl and my boyfriend is black. MLK Day my mom took us to a bigger city to go shopping and spend sometime together. My boyfriend, Robert, and I soon relized how times really haven't changed. All day we recieved dirty looks and heard comments. Now at first I didn't notice. Robert says it's because I don't care what other people think and I'm in my own world half the time. But I did start noticing and it was bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everytime someone would give us a dirty look he'd just put his arm around me and hold me tight. I guess me being the white girl thought times had changed, but that day had showed me how much it hasn't. The only difference is they didn't take Robert out back and kill him for being with a white girl. But I don't care, my family doesn't care, Robert doesn't care and his family doesn't care that he's black and I'm white and that's all that matters. It was just like a wake up call that we will have to deal with it, but luckly we both are going to stay and get through it together. Devona ..dots...
written by Chrissy, January 31, 2008 ya i havent seen that one yet! adn im always saying that patience is a very important virtue! and i think we all need prayer for more patience! and ya my pockets always have a billion reciepts! Dr Martin Luther King Jr - The Dream IS STILL ALIVE and still the cause should go on
written by Jeramiah Giehl aka Just paraDOX of Much Luvv Records, February 18, 2008 Ah yo Kj, what it do main The fight for social justice and the civil rights movement is still alive today. There is still work that needs to be done. You said, I admit I hold a weird spot in all of this... white guy, black music, white guy... black neighborhood growing up, white guy.... You know I totally feel you on that. Being a white dude from the hood in southern California I know what its like to be into things that seem paraDOXical. Take me a white guy who got married to a black woman at a Messianic Jewish Synagogue having a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony. Anyways, the cause of social justice and the civil rights movement isn't done not all thing are equal yet. You have the Gena situation, rap, Don Imus, all this stuff. I'm a say something controversial to some in the "WHITE RIGHT" or what they call the moral majority or the conservative / evangelical part of the republican party. However an equal amount of african american Christians vote democratic due to social issues and white christians vote republican on issues that the republican delivers on abortion, Intelligent Design, gay marriage and other things. During 2000-2004 when the republican had the house, the senate and the white house they didn't change a thing. Politics is a smoke screen don't by the lies. Seek the truth. Part of fulfilling the civil rights movement would be having a representative government that has an equal amount of people that represent us who have been where we have been and can relate to what have experienced. When the senate is 96 % white men and the population is 23% african american and 26% hispanic and 31% white. That doesn't seem write. We have one mixed race person (Barak Obama) in the senate and three women however there are more women and people of brown color in society they white people. Many get profiled for DWB (Driving While Brown) if your black or hispanic the cops are more likely to pull you over. Entertainment still focus on black men as comedians, thugs, gangsters or athletes and when intelligent men like Denzel Washington and others do good acting but are AWB (acting while brown) they don't get recognition unless they play a thug. Saying all that. I say that to say this. Barak Obama is a Christian who is a true believer with real Christian values and wants to see real change. It would be a great way to honor Dr MLK Jr and the bible that says seek justice, look out for the poor, true religion takes care of widows and orphans. Its not up to the church to legislate religion but to teach the bible and change hearts in church and be a movement fighting for social justice in America helping the homeless and those who don't have equal education and helping those suffering in the Genocide in Darfur and other war torn regions of Africa and around the world. If you want to know why I a "Christian" endorse voting for Obama and how my views changed. I have been a youth leader, a young adult leader, a mens group leader and went to an Assemblies of God bible college for 10 years and during this time. My views have shifted. I followed the strong push toward the republican party but watched whats happend and found that they didn't perform on what they promise. We need real change and real solutions. Anyways to find out how my views shifted so far please click on this link and read the article I had to write for class on my philosophy http://bhcvcom.dcccd.edu/~jgiehl/ex3.html anyways. God has done alot and there are people with real needs and there are real answers. Study all things, be a noble berean, test all things and hold fast to whats true. Anyways, I know I'm a little passionate and wordy but I'm very motivated I started a movement to raise awareness among Holy Hip Hop Artist to support and help the region of Darfur and bring awareness to the hundreds of thousands raped and murdered and the millions displaced. Shalom, Jeramiah Giehl aka Just paraDOX Holding it down in Dallas, Tx I hate pennies
written by Jeramiah Giehl aka Just paraDOX of Much Luvv Records, February 18, 2008 They need to do away with pennies and pointless reciepts... I hate pennies I always leave them on the counter or drop them in the Mac Donalds Cares box... Pennies suck, they are pointless. Thank you!!
