What is up the dizzle?
Im sitting here in my wife's car (which is much cleaner than mine) listening to some old school hip hop trying to find some musical inspiration... actually what I'm doing is watching the kiddo (who is asleep in the backseat) while the wifee is working out in the gym... Either way I'm trying to get some musical ideas as I'm working on this rerelease of the Yearbook album. This is my first day back as I've been in the midwest etc.. as I did the superchick xmas tour (go to kj52.libsyn.com to see the video of it or the kj myspace page) it feels great to be back in SUN!!! It was a constant snow/rain fest for the last few days as we hit up Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio (the finest states in the midwest I'm convinced).
Overall the tour was a success (all 5 dates ha ha) but towards the end I was definetly fiending to come home and was almost one storm away from being stuck in Peoria IL. Either way it's great to be back home and chilling.. except for the fact that my son got me up @ 5am this AM wide awake... (thanks kid.. youll pay for that one day).
Either way after a hard days night (cue the beatles music) here is my Tweezervations (i.e. 5tweezy observations)
The midwest:
By and large people are really polite, nice, hardworking etc in the midwest... we basically spent 6 days straight in the "core" of the midwest etc... and over and over we just met people who were really apt to help! This tour I did had me doing merch, setup, teardown, driving, performing... way more than my normal output for most shows but I found over and over a ton of people who were really down to help... I probably couldnt have gotten as much done as I did otherwise....
Panera Bread:
They just put one in in my home town…. Breaddddd…mmmm…. so much for trying to go low-carb. These guys give you free bread w/ your bread purchase. Is it required that you get a 10 ft. loaf w/ every sandwich? Either way it’s quite addictive.. I think I’ll go jog to work off the carbs..
Snow/rain:
Snow = cool. Rain = cool. Cold weather = cool. Snow + rain + cold = no thanks. This week’s tour forecast was rain followed by snow w/ a wonderful dash of cold thrown in for good measure which equaled to kj having to do all the drives in some nasty weather conditiond. The thing is that I’m used to Florida where the worst driving condtion is old people in the fast lane w/ there blinker on.. To top it all off I was the only one that could drive since all my other guys were under 25 ( darn rental car rules…).
Mini Vans:
Oh the cruel irony of it all.. my tour bus for this week was a mini van.. I seemed to be known for mini vans as much as “Dear Slim’. I guess that’s what I get for name checking it all in my songs etc… I wound up not being in a tour bus this week (too costly) and what’s the next step down? Yessss sir…. a mini van. This one wasn’t that bad as it had an aux input (ipod plug in) and a dvd player (in the back which I couldn’t watch) but at the end of the day it still feels like back in the day when I’m in a mini van…. (and no I don’t drive one anymore). I guess all things come full circle…
80’s movies:
Ah I miss the John Hughes directed glory days of teen movies (Ferris Buellers Day off, Breakfast Club, etc..) I was this close when I was Chicago of driving to the locations of where they shot these movies (n. Chicago shore area) … one of these days Im gonna relive the last shot of “breakfast club” w/ Bender on the football field w/ one arm lifted up…. as the credits roll and Simple Minds plays.
King David:
we did a study on his life while we were on tour.. I got so much out of seeing his life up and close.. I see so many parallels to what I do vs. his life etc.. it was very encouraging etc. God’s word never seems to get old or dull when you’re walking w/ him etc.
Till next blog…
