Like father like son...

Hey yall...

It's been a week of 3 generations of Sorrentino's coming together... Grandpa, Son and Grandson... what does that mean?  Well, let me explain... 2 Sunday's ago it was my son's first bday and on top of that this week I was able catch up w/ my dad in San Antonio.  Rarely do I get to experience that much Sorrentino in a week!  In a roundabout way I was able to observe a ton of similarities between all 3 of us...

Is it a genetic thing?  Is it environmental?  Is it because we are Sicilian?  LOL... Questions, questions, questions..   As my son begins to hit around one years old I've noticed him to be developing a very "noticeable" personality in many ways... now that I'm older and I kick it w/ my "pops' I can see so many things in my own life reflected in him and from him.

So w/ no further ado here is the tweezy/pops/son similarities:

Similarities to my dad:

Organized Chaos:

As I was kicking it w/ my dad there was one obvious glaring similarity that we have (and maybe this is all creative people) but we are messy! The irony is that its a very organized confusion when it come to our cars, desktops, computers, rooms and anything else involving "stuff" that appears to look like a hot ghetto mess to the common observer...   but to me and him we can ALWAYS find what we are looking for..  you'd hate to share a room w/ me because I take over the room literally w/ ALL MY STUFF!  But ask me where my hat is and I can find it in a sec (or maybe 4 minutes... it depends on the color of the hat).

Similarities to my son:

Determination/Independence/Strong will:

My son will not be told that he can't do something when he's determined to get it.   He's reaching the point where he wants to do everything himself... feed himself... steal dad's cellphone and not give it back... move the baby guard back so he can wreck DADS STUDIO etc.  It's so funny because I see so much of that in me...  often the best thing you can tell me is that I CAN'T DO THAT... all it does is drive me to GET IT DONE.  Our independent sprit is also what drives us to go after all things in the world... we don't want you to do it for us.... I WANT TO DO IT MYSELF.

Similarities to my Dad:

Music:

Alot of what I attribute my musical knowledge to (i.e. all things 80's) is to my Dad... even though I didnt come from a musical family we always had music playing in our house.  A lot of the music thats sitting in my itunes now is from specific songs or situations that i heard while being w/ my dad.   On the tour bus one night we played 80's music trivia and it's no concidence that I DEMOLISHED EVERYONE ON THE BUS.... all cuz of the cheesy 80's soundtrack to my adolescence.

Similarities to my son:

Blackberry cellphone: When we go out to eat the only thing he wants to play with that keeps him quiet is Dad's blackberry cellphone... and yes of course he rubs mashed potatoes on it.

Bananas:  This kid may be part monkey... all he eats is bananas.. who knew a one year old could eat an entire banana and then rub it on his hair like it's hair gel.

Books: He likes his Mom to read him books... ("brown bear, brown bear what do you see?") and I like to put my coffee on top of them.

Happy upcoming Father's day!

Hey,
I'm glad you got to meet up w/ you're dad!
"All things 80's' I'll go for that!

I have a little cousin that gets aunt's purse and ALWAYS messes w/ her cell phone. Yet I haven't seen him put bananas on his head. LOL... But, My brother when he was a baby (while we were in KFC) threw mashed potatoes on a little boy/girl's (I really don't know which one it was) head.
Does that count? smilies/cheesy.gif

Happy Father's Day to you Tweezy,
Emily

It's odd how you can be so similar to your family! I am similar to mine, I even look like my mother, and I was adopted. I don't even look like my birth mother!
LOL mashed potatoes in the phone...I feel sorry for you...Just wait until the Terrible Two's.
